God’s Word challenges us to be people of His Word. Timothy 2:15 states, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” Joshua 1:8 reads, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” It is clear that it is God’s will that we are to be people whose lives are saturated, filled, and driven by God’s Word.
One such man who was intoxicated by God’s word was John Bunyan. Charles Spurgeon, one of the great pastors of all time, said of Bunyan, “This man is a living Bible!’ Prick him anywhere — his blood is Bibline, the very essence of the Bible flows from him. He cannot speak without quoting a text, for his very soul is FULL of the Word of God.”
